Chasing the Vision: A talk with writer/director Ben
Hickernell Saturday, January 19, 2013 -

Join us for a conversation with Indie filmmaker Ben
Hickernell who will talk about “serving the story” and show
clips from
Lebanon, Pa. (2010) and
Backwards (2012). He’ll talk about what it’s like to be
a screenwriter and his work directing stars like Josh
Hopkins, Mary Beth Hurt, and James Van Der Beek. His talk is
free and open to the public. Popcorn not included.
Talk to be followed by and Q&A and signing. A
limited number of Hickernell's DVDs will be available for sale
on a first-come, first-served basis.

Ballroom at Stockton Seaview Hotel 401 S. New York Rd, Galloway, NJ Free and Open to the Public Our Sunday evening program will feature a reading by award
winning poet
Dorianne Laux
and
Thomas Peele. Dorianne is
a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and the Lenore
Marshall Poetry Prize, while Tom is an investigative reporter whose
first book, Killing The Messenger, was published by the Crown
Books division of Random House in February 2012. Come to hear them
read and leave the Getaway with autographed copies of their latest
books which will be available for sale at the Getaway Bookstore. The
reading is free and open to the public.
Need a ride? Have an extra space in your car? Flying in and looking
to rent a car or share expenses on an airport shuttle? Taking public
transit and looking to share ground transportation costs? Check out our
carpooling board to connect with others looking to share rides and
expenses. Although many people wait until the last minute to post, it can be a
good idea to plan ahead.

with Getaway Reads, a new email series that features the
writing of our Winter Poetry & Prose Getaway faculty, curated by
Stephanie Cawley. Pour yourself a cup of coffee or tea and spend
a few minutes savoring the story or poems we have chosen for
you.

Q: Is the Winter Getaway still on after Hurricane Sandy?
A: Absolutely! Our venue, Stockton Seaview Hotel,
came through the hurricane just fine and is fully operational.

Registration is now open for the 20th Annual Winter Poetry &
Prose Getaway! Get away to write with us on January 18-21,
2013. You've been waiting patiently for us to announce our news,
and we're excited to reveal to you:
- Stephen Dunn and Dorianne Laux are our special guests!
Stephen is our resident Pulitzer Prize winner, and Dorianne is a finalist for the National Book Critics
Circle Award and the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize. They'll
both be leading special
sections of Advanced Poetry Writing.
- We have 11 new faculty
members joining our fabulous familiar faces leading
poetry, prose, and multi-genre workshops.
- If you want to get your juices flowing, whether they're
creative or fermented, prior to Friday evening's opening
session, you're invited to join in the
Algonquin-style Poetry
Workshop. Write, drink, and be merry!

Congratulations to two of our long-time Winter Getaway faculty, Kathleen
Graber and
James Richardson, who were 2010
National Book Award Finalists. We were thrilled to see both of them on the
poetry list. Kathy was also a finalist for the 2010 National Book Critics
Circle Award.
